I rec'd the recorder very promptly and it works well. I don't like the counter as it does not tell you the minutes of recording or playback it is something else that has no meaning.
I also have CDs, but in my opinion cassette tapes sound almost as good as CD audio (and better than MP3 audio) so I am in no hurry to replace all of my cassette tapes with CDs. I bought two of them because I don't want to run out of cassette decks if they quit making them like they quit making 8-track players in the early 1980's. My Onkyo TARW255 cassette decks (I bought two of them) sound great and record great. I have only had them a few months but so far they have worked great. I have a large collection of cassette tapes which I intend to keep listening to for many years.
The unit also has a "standby" red light when you turn the unit off. Vann's has it online for less and a warranty for like $20 for 3 years. It's hard to read the buttons too because they are not backlit or painted brightly. No remote but has a connector to connect a Onkyo stereo amp for use with that remote.
It uses about 7W when it's in this mode. It's made in Malaysia not Japan. This thing sounds like something is going to break inside. Don't know how long it will last. It takes a while to get used to the eject button being on top of the cassette window. I have to say this one (Onkyo TARW255)is nothing like that one.
It clicks, jumps, and bumps like it's slipping or something. I'm used to all the buttons being on the bottom. So if you don't want to use extra electricity or be bothered by a red light then you'll have to unplug it. Get an extended warranty when you buy it. I had a Teac recorder once that never made a sound when I pushed the record button. Other than that it records very nicely.
No headphone or earphone jack.
But, not sure when this deck is also going wrong. Now, it's over return period, don't want to spend shipping cost, just using the Deck "B" only. don't buy. I bought it, haven't used often. Yesterday, I found that the Deck "A" doesn't work, keep stopping. Very Bad player.
The tape counter seems to count in seconds and this is not very standard for these systems. The unit is nice for the price but I would have liked to see an ONKYO " INTEGRA" line quality.
